A truly special antique glass panel sourced originally from an antique shop in England.
This piece is handmade decorative glass, featuring a hand-painted checkerboard pattern with foil-backed and reverse-painted detailing that gives it its warm, reflective depth. The surface shows beautiful age and oxidation, and it’s set in a substantial, solid wood frame with an old plank back that speaks to its history.
The checkerboard motif was commonly used in English interiors as a symbol of order and balance, often appearing in hearths, architectural panels, and furniture inlays. That quiet sense of structure is what makes this piece feel so grounding in a space.
Architectural, textural, and endlessly interesting as the light shifts throughout the day. I especially love it layered into a library, hallway, or above a mantel where you can catch its subtle shimmer as you pass.
Size: 19.5” x 19.5”
Condition: Antique wear throughout, consistent with age
