A truly special antique hand-painted folk art piece, originally a smoking stand or humidor (with copper-lined interior that kept tobacco fresh) and totally repurposable as a side table, nightstand, plant stand, or nursery storage. Painted in deep teal/forest green with hand painted decoration featuring a sweet blonde girl in a polka dot dress holding what appears to be a goose, with red hearts in the corners and yellow flowers. Very Pennsylvania Dutch / European folk art inspired. The form (turned legs, scalloped apron, upper shelf with cabinet below) is classic 1920s-40s American, with the hand-painted folk treatment likely added mid-century as a labor of love. Original wrought iron hinges and latch on the door. The door does stick, but opens.
