This one is a little outside my usual vintage and antique finds with a 2012 publish date, but it was simply too special to pass up.
Gustav Klimt: The Complete Paintings by Taschen is one of those books that genuinely takes your breath away when you open it.
Klimt was a founding member of the Vienna Secession movement and one of the most distinctive voices in Art Nouveau history, famous for his use of gold leaf, Byzantine-inspired ornamentation, and intensely expressive portraits. This Taschen volume does full justice to that legacy.
The reproductions are enormous and breathtaking, including fold-out pages that let you experience the paintings at a scale that comes close to seeing them in person. At 9.5 lbs and originally retailing for $200, this is a serious collector’s edition in every sense. It arrives in its own hard case with a handle, which makes it feel like a proper event just to take it out.
This is the kind of book you leave open on a coffee table and find yourself stopping to look at every single time you walk past it. Scroll to the flip through video for a peek inside!
