A truly special original signed folk art painting by celebrated Hudson Valley artist Jennifer Lanne, with documented provenance and attribution confirmed directly by the artist.
Jennifer Lanne is a self taught artist working out of a 150 year old barn studio at Devils Hop Farm in upstate New York. Known for her vintage inspired paintings with antiqued and distressed finishes, her work is widely collected and her earlier folk art commissions like this one are increasingly rare on the secondary market.
This piece was painted approximately 20 years ago as a commissioned portrait of a beloved cat, in the "folk art" style the original owner specifically requested. The owner, a passionate collector of folk art, treasured the painting in her home for two decades. After her passing last fall, the piece moved through her estate sale and was sourced at the Brimfield Antique Show in May 2026.
After acquiring it, I reached out to Jennifer Lanne directly. She confirmed the work as her original, recalled the commission, and graciously shared its history. The painting features Jennifer's signature moody palette of deep green ground with a regal black cat front and center, soulful yellow eyes, and a delicate floral teacup at the cat's paws. Set in a silvery champagne gadroon edge wood frame that beautifully complements the painting. Jennifer's original artist bio card remains affixed to the back.
