A beautifully imperfect original female portrait, signed and dated 1933, painted on canvas and now offered unframed.
Nearly a century old, she has exactly the kind of soulful, timeworn quality I love in old portraiture. The warm coloring, soft expression, and visible history of the painted surface make her feel less like simply a piece of artwork and more like someone who has already lived a long life on another home’s walls.
This painting does show significant age and wear, including chipping and losses to the painted surface as well as old water staining/wear visible on the reverse of the canvas. Please review all photos carefully. I chose to leave her as-found rather than attempt to restore away the character that drew me to her in the first place.
