One of those pieces that feels both useful and special.
This is a hand-painted, signed woven reed basket with a footed base and fitted lid, decorated with a folk-art blue bird motif. It is so wonderfully beautiful, and I originally intended to keep this for myself. 🐦 Pieces like this were often made in the mid-20th century as decorative household objects, blending everyday function with personal, artistic expression.
I’m drawn to painted baskets because they live so easily in a home. They work beautifully on a shelf, under a console, at the end of a bed, or tucked into a library, while still offering practical storage. The hand-painted birds give this one so much personality, and the wear throughout adds softness rather than taking away from it.
